Benefits Information for New Staff
The benefits presentation at New Staff Orientation (NSO) provides an overview of core and voluntary benefits available at Vanderbilt. Tuition benefits are covered in brief. The Office of Benefits Administration does not include information on leave accruals. The hiring manager should explain vacation, personal and sick time to new staff as soon as possible. (If needed, refer to the HR Policies Web page for more information.)
Hourly Paid (Non-exempt) Staff
- Health, dental and vision benefits for hourly paid staff begin on the first of the month following 60 days of employment
- Benefits Enrollment Form is due within 60 days of hire date
Hourly Paid (Non-exempt) Staff Going from Part-time to Full-time Position
- If you change from a regular part-time position to a regular full-time position, your part-time service counts toward your benefits-eligibility wait and your Benefits Enrollment Form is due within 30 days of the change to full-time status
Salaried (Exempt) Staff
- Health, dental and vision benefits for salaried staff begin on the hire date. Monthly premiums are not pro-rated (the entire monthly cost is due when benefits begin)
- Benefits Enrollment Form is due within 30 days of hire date
