Elements of the Evaluation
An annual development plan guides each staff member’s work for the year. Here is where learning and continuous improvement combine for personal development. Review of the previous year’s Development Plan comprises an important part of the Annual Performance Evaluation.
Ongoing review of the current plan reinforces ongoing demonstration of performance and achievement of goals. Note that for new staff, the development plan is the orientation plan.
As part of the preparation process, supervisors will communicate the goals of the department for the next year. This provides a setting for discussing the individual’s needs. The staff member and supervisor will then agree on a limited number of goals that will provide focus for the individual’s work in the next year. They will also agree on how the goal will be measured and identify appropriate ways to check in on progress during the year.
