Please go to www.vanderbilt.jobs to submit an application.

For other information, email us at jobs@vanderbilt.edu.

Applications/Resumes are not accepted through this email address.

Q:  How do I apply for Faculty or Physician positions?

A:  Openings in these positions are managed by the offices of the Dean or Chair of

each school or department.  Job seekers should search the Vanderbilt Website

or Vanderbilt Directory to obtain contact information for their specific areas of

          interest.

Q:  Are there exceptions to the posted requirements for a position?

A:  No. Candidates must meet the minimum requirements of any position in

order to move forward in the application process.   However, if an

educational accomplishment, number of years of experience, or skill is

listed as preferred, then candidates who have the preferred qualification

will receive first consideration but candidates without that qualification

          may also move forward.

Q:  Are the salaries for positions at Vanderbilt negotiable?

A:   If the salary for the position in which you are interested is negotiable, this

will usually be stated in the job posting. Even if the salary is negotiable,

however, equity between employees of the same title and within the same

department is carefully maintained.  A salary range has been assigned to the

majority of positions at Vanderbilt.  The salary for a new hire is based on this

salary range, the employee's education and experience and the available

           budgeted funds within the department.

Q:  If the application deadline has passed but the job is posted, can I still apply

           for it?

A:  You may apply for any position that is still listed on the Vanderbilt Jobline,

however, only if a candidate is NOT chosen from those who applied before the

application deadline will your application be considered.

Q:  Is there a limit to the number of positions I can apply for ?

A:  An applicant may apply for up to 5 positions per day, however, we ask

that you apply for only those positions in which you are truly interested

and for which you are qualified.

Q:  How do I edit my resume or contact information after I have applied?

A:  To access your application without applying for an additional position, go to

          http://www.recruitingcenter.net/clients/vanderbilt/CanLogin.rs.  To edit your

resume, click on the "Edit Resume" link at the top of the application page.  The

large text box provided on your application is not for editing your existing

resume nor for adding an additional resume.  Information placed in this box will

not automatically be presented to the recruiter reviewing your qualifications.

Q:  What should I do if I can't access my application and the automated email

won't send me the information I need?

A:  Contact the Vanderbilt Express Office at 615-322-8304.  They will provide you

with your User Name and Password or check to make sure it is accurate.

Because this information can automatically be sent to you through your email,

you should also ask them to verify your email address.

Q:  Where should I send my resume if I want to be considered for any current

           or future openings?

A:  Vanderbilt does not accept resumes without an application.  All applications

must be accompanied by information which identifies a position by requisition

number, position number, title and department, or title and name of hiring

official. Those applications and resumes that are received without this

information are not moved forward in the application process. Applications can

be completed online through the Vanderbilt Jobline or in hard copy by visiting

one of the Vanderbilt Recruitment Offices.

Q:  Can I supply more than one resume so that I can tailor each one to the

           appropriate position?

A:  We are currently unable to accept more than one resume at a time.  Please

provide a resume that will summarize your qualifications.

Q:  When will the hiring manager contact me?

A:  The hiring manager will initially contact only those candidates that he/she

wants to interview.  After a hiring decision has been made, the candidates

that are not chosen will be notified that the position has been filled.

Q:  How can I contact the manager of a position?

A:  Due to the high number of applications received by Vanderbilt each day, it

is our policy that the contact information for our managers is not released

to the candidates.  The number of calls and/or emails that each manager

would receive would be overwhelming.  For questions about a position or

about the hiring process, please contact one of the recruitment offices.

Q:  How long should I wait to hear from a manager before I apply for another

          position?

A:  Vanderbilt recommends that you do not wait.  If there are other positions

available in which you are interested, apply for them while they are posted.

We do not want you to miss an opportunity while you wait for another that

          is not guaranteed.

Q:  How can I check on the status of my application(s)?

A:  Please allow a minimum of 5 days for your material to be reviewed.  After

5 days you may call the Vanderbilt Express Office at 615-322-8304.

Q:  Why am I not being scheduled for interviews?

A:  There are several reasons that this may occur.  The most common is that

you may be applying for positions for which you meet only the

minimum requirements.  Competition for many of the positions at VU is

very high. Candidates with advanced education, experience, and skills

will receive first consideration.  You might consider applying for positions

for which your qualifications are stronger.

Include a resume with your application.  It offers a more professional

presentation of your qualifications to the recruiters and hiring officials.

Review your resume.  Make sure your education, experience, and skills

are clearly and professionally expressed.  Proof your resume for typing,

spelling and grammar errors. Your resume represents you to the recruiters

and the hiring officials.  It should reflect a positive image!

Verify your minimum salary requirement.  If you have set this requirement

at a level that you hope to receive instead of one that you are able and

willing to receive, you may be declined because your salary exceeds that

which is available for the position. If your salary requirement is negotiable,

put "negotiable" in answer to this question.

Supply good contact information.  Make sure your phone number and

email address are entered correctly on your application.  If you have a

secondary number where you can be reached, consider providing it as

          well.

Q:  If I am hired into one position at Vanderbilt, how long do I have to wait to

           transfer to another?

A:  Employees are required to successfully completed the orientation period
and have remained in the current position to allow for a six month
evaluation period before they are eligible for a transfer.  However, Vanderbilt

encourages its employees to remain in a position for a minimum of one year

          before transferring.

Q:  Should I apply for positions that are at a lower level than I really want, just

to get my foot in the door?

A:  This approach is not recommended and is not advantageous to you or to the

person who hires you. Remember that valuable resources are used to

advertise, interview, choose and train each new employee.  If a newly

hired employee quickly transfers to another position, the original hiring official's

resources have been wasted and your motivations may become questionable

to those hiring for positions that you really want.  For candidates who are

currently unemployed, a better approach is through Vanderbilt Temporary

Services.  These paid, temporary assignments allow you to become familiar with

the policies and procedures at Vanderbilt while you continue to apply for regular

positions with us.  In these positions you will also be establishing contacts and

           advantageous in-house references.

Vanderbilt wants to hire the candidates with the best qualifications for each job

and those qualifications include honesty and dedication. For your best chance of

success at Vanderbilt, make sure your actions reflect these qualities.

Vanderbilt University is committed to principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action.
