Traci K. Nordberg
Chief Human Resources Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor
Traci leads institution-wide human resources from service delivery to employee relations, health and wellness, compensation/benefits, to organizational effectiveness, talent acquisition, and HR systems. She joined Vanderbilt in 2010 and is passionate about the university and medical system being a great place to work! She has a bachelor’s in communications from Ball State University and has a JD from Suffolk University Law School in Boston.
Director, Organizational Effectiveness
Pam oversees training and organizational development for the University and Medical Center, including Workshops, Elevate, and Community Survey. She has a B.A. in English from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master’s in Counseling from California State University, San Diego.
Executive Director, Human Resources
Deborah supervises the Employee Relations Center and the University Central Service Delivery Team, providing expertise with employment and labor relations. She earned her B.A. at the University of Puget Sound and her J.D. at Vermont Law School.
Director of Payroll, HR and Tuition Processing
Kristie oversees the processing of Vanderbilt’s $2 billion annual payroll which produces over 600,000 paychecks a year. Her team also handles employee information processing (payroll action forms, direct deposit, address changes, W-4's), benefits processing as well as tuition reimbursements and dependent tuition payments. Kristie is a payroll industry veteran with over 25 years of payroll, payroll tax and payroll systems management experience. Kristie has an Associate’s Degree from Nashville State Community college and earned her Certified Payroll Profession designation in 1993.
Manager, HR Communications
Erika develops and executes strategic communications plans for HR programs and initiatives. She has a B.A. from Michigan State University.
Senior Director, Talent Acquisition
Candy is responsible for University and Medical Center recruiting, Vanderbilt Temporary Services and the Employee Services Center. She received her undergraduate degree in Social Work from Middle Tennessee State University and did graduate work in Guidance and Counseling. Candy is the recipient of CIGNA’s highest honor, the President’s Club Award.
Director, Medical Center Service Delivery Teams
Jannis joined the HR team on October 1, 2012 as the Director for Medical Center Service Delivery Teams. She is a seasoned HR professional who contributes the right talent and experience to support the service delivery teams and Vanderbilt. She has a Master of Science Degree in Leadership and Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management from Palm Beach Atlantic University.
Senior Director, Compensation and Benefits
Rick develops HR solutions and leads the Compensation and Benefits teams. He has an MBA from the Sellinger School at Loyola College of Maryland and his B.B.A. in Quantitative Analysis from the University of Cincinnati.
Assistant Director, Benefits
Terri is responsible for the administration of Vanderbilt's employee benefits programs. She provides guidance to benefits department staff on various employee benefit plans; assists the senior director, compensation and benefits in developing and installing approved, new, or modified plans and policies; and supervises the administration of existing plans. Terri has a B.B.A with a concentration in finance from Austin Peay State University. She is also a graduate of the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) program, co-sponsored by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Stacy (Chilando) Hatten
Talent Acquisition Manager, University Central and VTS
Stacey manages recruitment for both the University and Vanderbilt Temporary Services. She also works with Taleo, Vanderbilt’s recruitment management software. She has a B.B.A from Middle Tennessee State University and is certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR).
Leslee oversees performance and pay at Vanderbilt, including the performance evaluation system and position classification systems. She has a Master in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University and a B.S. in Psychology from East Tennessee State University. Leslee is certified as a PHR and is working toward her CCP (Certified Compensation Professional).
Manager, Sourcing/Research & Development/Talent Acquisition
Richard documents requirements for job openings, develops innovative recruiting techniques and builds Vanderbilt’s brand in key markets. He received his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Assistant Director, Clinical Recruitment
Novonda manages clinical recruitment for the Medical Center. She is also an online adjunct professor facilitating courses in HR Management, Critical Thinking, and Management & Supervision. She earned a bachelor’s in Management & Human Relations and a master’s in Organizational Management from Trevecca Nazarene University and is PHR certified.
Talent Acquisition Manager, University Central and School of Medicine
Barbara manages recruitment for both the University and School of Medicine. Barbara has a B.S. in Business Administration from Marist College and she is certified as a Professional I Human Resources (PHR).
Senior Human Resources Consultant, Vanderbilt School of Medicine
Susan leads a team of professionals who provide service delivery for Vanderbilt School of Medicine, including performance management, compensation, employee relations and talent acquisition. Her bachelor’s is in Economics from Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. Susan is SPHR and CCP certified.
Senior Human Resources Consultant, University Central Service Delivery Team
Alan serves as the primary point of contact for managers, supervisors and employees assigned to the University’s central academic, financial and service departments. He provides coaching, consultation and counseling services with staffing, employee/labor relations, compensation, organizational change and employee development. He has a master’s in Education and Human Resource Development from George Washington University and a bachelor’s from The Citadel.
Talent Acquisition Manager, Diversity and Career Navigation
Janet chairs the HR Diversity Committee and is responsible for implementing strategies to attract and retain diverse talent. She also develops career navigation services for staff and manages the Dual Career Program. She has a B.S. in Business Education from Tennessee State University and is an AIRS Certified Diversity Recruiter as well as a Rule 31 General Civil Mediator with the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Director, Human Resources Finance and Administration
Karen monitors and reconciles cost centers, oversees the preparation of tax payments, establishes budgets, and works with the Executive Compensation and Incentive programs. She received her bachelor’s and master’s in Accountancy from the University of Mississippi. A Certified Public Accountant, she also is SPHR certified.
Senior Advisor, Employee Relations
Cleo provides guidance and strategy on institutional employee and labor relations initiatives and individual employee relations cases. He earned a B.A. from the University Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin.

Julie provides guidance and strategy on institutional employee relations initiatives and individual employee relations cases. She earned a B.S. degree from Austin Peay State University.
Senior Human Resources Consultant, Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, and Vanderbilt University Hospital
Mel leads a team of HR professionals providing service delivery to the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, and Vanderbilt University Hospital for all aspects of Human Resources needs, including performance management, compensation, employee relations, and talent acquisition. Mel has nearly 20 years of experience in Human Resources leadership and over 16 of those years have been in the healthcare field. Mel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida, a Masters degree in Human Resources, and is a certified professional in Human Resources (SPHR). He has served as President of MTSHRM (Middle TN Society of Human Resources Management) and co-chaired the state of Tennessee SHRM Conference.
