Distinguished Leadership Award to Recognize Staff Leadership in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

New Diversity Award 

The Vanderbilt University Distinguished Leadership Award to Recognize Staff Leadership in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is presented to a full time regular staff member who has demonstrated exemplary contributions to Vanderbilt University’s mission, as well as exhibited outstanding commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.  This annual award recognizes significant achievements in developing a culturally diverse, compassionate university community reflective of inclusive excellence.

The Vanderbilt University Distinguished Leadership Award to Recognize Staff Leadership in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will be presented each year at the annual Service Award Celebration.  The recipient will receive a cash award of $2,500 and an engraved crystal bowl.

Eligibility

Candidates must be regular full time staff members with a minimum of three years of consecutive Vanderbilt service and are not a previous recipient of the Vanderbilt University Distinguished Leadership Award to Recognize Staff Leadership in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. All full-time staff, whose role is not specifically dedicated to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, are eligible for consideration.

Criteria

Criteria for selection are as follows:

Impact - An individual who has had an impact on the campus environment in a way that substantially enhances the institutions equity, diversity and inclusion efforts.

Performance - An individual whose overall performance goes beyond the scope of their position at the university and reflects a high level of service, dedication, compassion and applied skills to the support of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Awareness - An individual who has contributed to raising awareness about equity, diversity and inclusion in accordance with Vanderbilt University’s mission.

Selection Committee

The winner of the Vanderbilt University Distinguished Leadership Award to Recognize Staff Leadership in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is chosen by a selection committee. This committee is appointed and consists of five to seven members including the committee chair(s), the previous year’s winner(s) and representation from exempt/non-exempt staff, administration, and faculty. The chair(s) of the committee will be a dean or department head and/or a representative from the Vice Chancellors Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.  Any question regarding eligibility of a nominee will be determined by the committee chair(s). A representative from Human Resources will serve as ex officio on the committee and will facilitate the committee’s review work. 

The committee will review all nominations and solicit any corroborating evidence it deems necessary, including documentation from supervisors that the staff member meets or exceeds all regular job performance expectations.
