If you are going into an unpaid leave of absence status, you will need to make a decision about your benefits coverage for that period of time.
You have the option to waive coverage during times without a paycheck by processing a life event within 30 days of the start of your leave. You may also complete a waiver form by going to the People Experience Front Desk in Baker Building, 10th floor. To re-enroll in benefits, you will have to process another life event within 30 days of your return to work.
- Those who choose to waive coverage while on leave of absence should note that if they waive life insurance or disability coverage, they will be required to submit Evidence of Insurability to MetLife upon their return to work in order to re-enroll in those benefits.
- Those who choose to maintain their coverage will be directly billed for their benefit premiums, as has been the practice in the past.
- If timely payment does not occur by the due date noted on the invoice, benefit coverage will be terminated retroactive to the last paid-through date until the following year by enrolling during open enrollment, barring any qualifying life events like marriage or the birth of a child.
