About PSLF

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program forgives the remaining balance on direct student loans after borrowers have made 120 qualifying payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a U.S. federal, state, local or tribal government or a not-for-profit (501(c)3) organization. As a 501(c)3 institution, Vanderbilt University is an eligible employer, allowing employees to qualify for PSLF.

How to Apply for PSLF

To be considered for PSLF, you only need to submit a PSLF form. The easiest way to do this is by using the PSLF Help Tool. The PSLF Help Tool allows you to:

  1. Check to see if your employer is already in our employer database. Vanderbilt is an eligible employer.
  2. Request that your employer’s eligibility be reviewed if it is not already in our database or has not yet had its eligibility determined.
  3. For Vanderbilt employment, use the DocuSign electronic link on the PSLF website, complete and sign your portion of the form, then send to pcb@vanderbilt.edu for the university’s portion to be completed.
  4. If you were employed with additional employers, for example, VUMC after the split in April 2016, you will need to send separate PSLF forms to each additional employer.
