Biography

Jonathan Tyson is a Director for Campus Dining, overseeing Development Onboarding and Training and Student Employment within Auxiliary Services at Vanderbilt University. In his senior leadership role, he assists the department’s leadership with operational efficiency, provides training and development for front-line management, hourly staff, and students, and is the coordinator for orienting and on-boarding new hires into the campus dining division. As a director, he constructs fundamental guiding principles to foster and support the residential college health and wellness commitment to the student body. Jonathan is an experience operations director in multi-unit management, hotel and restaurant management, culinary arts, and mentorship programs for growth-development.

Jonathan is a leader in team building, operational effectiveness, and strategic growth planning. He is passionate about student engagement and increasing career readiness for students cultivating a partnership with dining staff and students building the hospitality program at Vanderbilt University. Jonathan fosters the environment for students serving students defining the core of community and servant leadership. Jonathan strives to build community relationships, promote sustainability innovations building the core values of Vanderbilt’s greater mission. He cultivates learning programs for career advancement, building staff confidence with on-the-job training and development, eliminating boundaries allowing one’s desire to be met with encouragement and accessibility.

Originally from Hickory, NC., he moved to Nashville July 2018 after working at several prestigious college and universities; University of South Carolina, Southern Methodist University, Casper College, Wake Forest University, and High Point University. Jonathan attended Johnson & Wales in Charleston, SC. obtain his degree in Culinary Arts. After graduating he worked as a Chef for over 10 plus years in varieties food service operations – Ritz Carlton in downtown Atlanta, GA, Green Valley Grill, O’ Henry Hotel in Greensboro, NC, Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge in Denali, AK and Rock Barn Golf and Spa in Claremont, NC, and several National Brands; Starbucks, Chick-fil- A, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Subway just to name a few.  During his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 daughters, traveling, baking cakes and cookies on the weekends, and playing outdoors with his daughters
