Vanderbilt University partners with EdAssist to administer the University’s tuition benefit programs.  EdAssist is a leading provider of education solutions, offering an online self-service portal that provides a comprehensive, streamlined, and efficient way to coordinate tuition benefits.   

EdAssist allows tuition benefit participants to apply for tuition benefits online.  The EdAssist Portal provides 24/7 access to faculty and staff members to check application statuses, submit required documentation at their convenience, and experience efficient processing. 

  • How much of a discount do I get on tuition?

    The Education Assistance program provides regular and term, full-time staff members in an active status who have completed three months of employment, and their spouses, with assistance toward payment of tuition for undergraduate, graduate and professional courses. (Vanderbilt Temporary Services employees are not eligible for this benefit.) Participants shall receive an advanced payment for the lesser of 70 percent of the cost of tuition for one 3 credit hour course per term at an accredited institution or 70 percent of the cost of similar-level course work at Vanderbilt.   • Can my spouse take advantage of a tuition discount?

    Your spouse will receive a 47 percent discount on tuition for one course per semester taken at Vanderbilt, or three courses per academic year. Eligible staff members' spouses may also audit one Vanderbilt course per semester and tuition will be waived, with written permission from the instructor. Click here for additional details.

  • Did you receive my tuition form?

    Tuition program is being processed through EdAssist. Please check your EdAssist account for application status. if you have any additional questions, you may email tuitionbenefit@vanderbilt.edu.

When to Apply

Faculty and staff may apply online through EdAssist starting 90 days prior to each class start date. 

The DEADLINE to submit an application is 30 days after each class start date. 

Processes

  • Dependent Children

    Applying: Apply online with EdAssist® starting 90 days prior to each class start date.

    Processing: EdAssist® reviews the application and, if criteria are met, EdAssist® approves and notifies you of the updated status via email. EdAssist® generates a Letter of Credit for you to print or download and provide to the school. The school sends EdAssist® the completed Letter of Credit plus detailed invoice. EdAssist® processes payment to the school. 

    Status updates: You can access real-time status information online, anytime. 

  • Faculty and Staff taking Courses

    Applying: Apply online with EdAssist® starting 90 days prior to each class start date.  The deadline to submit an application is 30 days after the class start date.

    Documentation: Submit itemized invoice document/s at the time of your application for approval.  It is advised to submit your application and itemized invoice as soon as possible to expedite your payment.  Then, within 30 days of the course end date, submit proof of final grade documentation.  Simply log into the EdAssist® Portal and upload documents (invoice, grade report, etc.) directly onto your application. 

    Processing: If all criteria are met, EdAssist® approves your direct payment and updates your status. EdAssist® then sends payment information to Payroll for processing on your next available paycheck.

Note: The IRS limits the amount employees can be reimbursed for education/tuition before taxes are applied to $5,250. Any reimbursement above this amount will be reported as taxable income. Please see the IRS web page for more information.
