Vanderbilt Pharmacies and the PayFlex CardOn July 1, 2009, the Internal Revenue Service guidelines went into effect forcing pharmacies to be Inventory Information Approval System (IIAS) Certified if the pharmacy wants to continue to accept Flexible Spending Account and Health Reimbursement Account debit cards as payment. The Vanderbilt Pharmacies are IIAS-certified. However, some of the Vanderbilt Outpatient pharmacies are still having service interruptions due to behind-the-scenes card transaction processing. They hope to have the issue resolved very soon. The Benefits Office recommends that you bring an alternate payment method with you to the pharmacy until you are sure your card transaction will work. We will have another update Monday, July 6. You may call your Vanderbilt pharmacy if you have any questions. |

PayFlex EmailPayFlex recently sent an email to participants enrolled in the Health Flexible Spending Account and recipients of the Health Reimbursement Account describing Internal Revenue Changes to debit card use. The email is simply informing debit card users that the IRS is implementing a change that they originally were going to put in place on January 1, 2009. The IRS moved the date of the implementation to July 1, 2009. The IRS change means that debit card purchases made at pharmacies should no longer need to be verified. HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS in case you are audited by the Internal Revenue Service. The Vanderbilt pharmacies are IIAS certified. |
