    PayFlex

    Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt Pharmacies and the PayFlex Card

On July 1, 2009, the Internal Revenue Service guidelines went into effect forcing pharmacies to be Inventory Information Approval System (IIAS) Certified if the pharmacy wants to continue to accept Flexible Spending Account and Health Reimbursement Account debit cards as payment.

The Vanderbilt Pharmacies are IIAS-certified. However, some of the Vanderbilt Outpatient pharmacies are still having service interruptions due to behind-the-scenes card transaction processing. They hope to have the issue resolved very soon.

The Benefits Office recommends that you bring an alternate payment method with you to the pharmacy until you are sure your card transaction will work. We will have another update Monday, July 6. You may call your Vanderbilt pharmacy if you have any questions.

    go for the gold

Changes to Go for the Gold, starting in 2010

The Benefits Office and Health Plus are changing the way employees will receive their Go For The Gold (GFTG) Wellness Credit, starting January 2010.

More information about the Wellness Credit will be posted here soon.

    Open Enrollment

Open Enrollment Mailing — Take Our Survey

The Benefits Office is gearing up for Open Enrollment coming in October 2009. Take our survey (at right) to let us know if you are interested in a pilot program to opt-out of the mailed Open Enrollment booklet.

    PayFlex

    PayFlex Email

PayFlex recently sent an email to participants enrolled in the Health Flexible Spending Account and recipients of the Health Reimbursement Account describing Internal Revenue Changes to debit card use.

The email is simply informing debit card users that the IRS is implementing a change that they originally were going to put in place on January 1, 2009. The IRS moved the date of the implementation to July 1, 2009.

The IRS change means that debit card purchases made at pharmacies should no longer need to be verified. HOWEVER, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS in case you are audited by the Internal Revenue Service.

The Vanderbilt pharmacies are IIAS certified.

    Valic

AIG Rebranding to Familiar Name — VALIC

The name change from AIG Retirement to VALIC will begin immediately and will incorporate all future VALIC literature, Web site information and correspondence to members.

    415(g) Limit Requirements

If you received an email from the Office of Benefits Administration regarding the Section 415(g) limit, you will receive a letter at your home mailing address that will include a form you must complete and return by March 6, 2009.

Information about the Section 415(g) limit

Internal Revenue Service Web site for information and requirements

    Vanderbilt's 415(g) Aggregation Form

The Internal Revenue Code contains new regulations requiring  403(b) plan sponsors, like Vanderbilt, to collect detailed information about employees’ contributions made to retirement plans through specific outside businesses.

If you own a controlling interest in an outside business and make contributions to that outside business' retirement plan, you may be required to report those contributions.

Contact your tax advisor to ensure that you understand what is required of you and the implications if you do not report your contributions.

    spending account names changes

    PSA now FSA

    FRA now HRA

Confused by this alphabet soup?  Hang in there!

The Office of Benefits Administration is changing the names of the spending account benefits to match the official Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and PayFlex titles.

    OLD NEW
Health Care Personal Spending Account (PSA) Health Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Dependent Care Personal SPending Account (PSA) Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
Flexible Reimbursement Account (FRA) Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)

Matching the IRS official names will make it easier when you file your taxes, work with your tax advisor, speak with PayFlex customer service, etc.

The claim forms and other documents under Forms and Documents on the HR Web site now shows the new names (with the old names in parenthesis for reference).

To check your FSA and HRA account information, log into the Vanderbilt/PayFlex Web site: http://vanderbilt.payflex.com

(Please do not log in at www.mypayflex.com)
